Sittles Airfield is located at Sittles Farm near Lichfield
in Staffordshire and is PPR to all new visitors.
The runways are now in the field on the
opposite side of the road to the farm, this is due to gravel excavation.
In the next few years it is expected that we will re-locate back to the
farm side, with new runways and stunning landscaped surroundings.
The airfield has been operating for some 15
years and has developed into a Nationally known site. There are two
runways that are orientated roughly E/W and N/S. Ground conditions are
fairly good but, as with any grass strip, can be affected by adverse
weather. The grass is maintained to a good standard. Because hangarage
is farm side, we have to manually (no engines running) move the aircraft
across a road.
The 09/27 runway is 530m whilst the 15/33 is
350m. There is a bridle path that runs across 15/33 near the 33
threshold. Approaches in all
directions have their hazards.
The "Control" caravan is in the hangar area and
tea & coffee is available. Also a visitors book has to be signed.
Sittles Flying Club is a Limited Company and operates a Health & Safety
policy.
The radio frequency is 129.825,
call sign "Sittles" and the adjacent
airstrip at Streethay operates safety com on 135.475. Tree foliage can overhang the
runway in places.
The grid reference as taken by GPS at the
intersection of the two runways is
52-42- 24N 01-45-01W
Access by road is easiest from the A38.
Northbound, exit at the "Fradley Village" sign, cross back over the A38 and turn
left, over the level crossing and then follow the road round to the
right for about 1/2 mile, the airstrip will be on your right. Southbound, exit the A38 at the "Fradley Arms"
hotel, over the level crossing and then as above.
Sittles is an unlicensed airfield. See our PPR
page for flying-in details.
Below are some photographs and charts
